  ➣G R O W I N G ▪ Growing up, Matthew had his fair share of struggles. It wasn't because of his sexuality, or school - no he never struggled with that. It was his life at home, that was the source of his struggles. But it wasn't like he lost his parents in carcrash like his best friend Mikhail, no he never lost his parents. But when Matthew was born in 1988, he wasn't lucky enough to be born into a loving warm family, who had all the money in the world. No, instead he was born to a mother who was unfortunate enough to have become pregnant the first night she ever had sex with someone. She was no more than 16 when he was born, and her boyfriend - Matthew's father - didn't care for the child or her at all, and left days before she gave birth to Matthew. Her parents disowned her, and from the day Matthew entered the world he and his mother was alone. Well, for awhile at least. Because, even though his mother was a sort of naive woman who didn't have a whole lot of brainactivity going on upstairs, she was beautiful. Undeniably beautiful. And when Matthew was around two years old, she met a man in the café she was working in. At first the man was charismatic, alluring .. Magnetic almost, knowing exactly what to say at the right time, to draw in people around him. But later, when he knew that she was completely lost in him, he became controlling and with time, abusive. Matthew was six when he for the first time saw the man beat the crap out of his mother. He didn't understand it at the time, and terrified him because he had grown up learning to call the man 'dad'. However, the man didn't react to Matthew standing in the hallway overlooking the situation. He didn't even flinch. Instead he just looked up with a smile at the boy, and pulled the mother's hair back and said 'You see boy, that's how you treat a woman when she disrespect you'. That was the first of many times Matthew hurt that sentence, and even though it could have turned around and have imprintet in his brain, instead it made the opposite effect. Matthew always treated women right, and never once dared to disrespect them like his "father" had done.

  ➣U P▪ And as Matthew grew older, and reached puberty he started to defend his mother. At first it was verbal, where he would yell at the man whenever he started to throw punches, but when that stopped working, Matthew would start to throw punches back. However, what shocked him to his core was when he his mother started to tell Matthew to stop, and started crying that Matthew was hurting the man. That was the first time, Matthew saw the effects of the abuse. His mother was addicted to it. And when Matthew asked his mother to choose between the man or Matthew, as Matthew could no longer stand by and see the abuse, she chose the man. That day Matthew packed his bags, left and never came back. To this day he still doesn't know where his mother is, or if she is even alive, because he simply doesn't care. She chose an abusive man over him, and from that day on she was dead to him. He was seventeen when he left, and it didn't take long after for him to file for independency from his mother, which he got. After that he moved high school, and graduated with honors and was the valedictorian at graduation. His grades were so good and he had so many after school activities, that he was granted a scholarship to Harvard Law School. When he was done, he was hired as a defense lawyer in a high profile company, and was given his first assignment when Aleksandra Annenkova approached the company, with a desire to realise her brother from russian prison. Matthew travelled to Russia, where he met with Mikhail Annenkov for the first time, and within a year, Matthew had gotten the young russian-american out of prison and they flew home to the states together. Ever since then, the boys have been best friends. Since that assignment, Matthew has since become a high profile lawyer, that you hire when you want the best in the country. His home is in Gotham, but he travels a lot and is hardly ever home. But when he is, he spends time with his two favorite people in the world - Aleksandra and Mikhail, two people who has throughout the last seven-eight years of his life, has become like family to him. They are extremely close, especially him and Mikhail, and even though Matthew doesn't know what they're hiding from him, he trusts them completely. Which is rare, as he has major trust issues - but more on that later. But at the moment, Matthew is very content and happy with his life. He has his dream job, he has good friends and he gets to sleep around without commitment. What more could he ask for?

  Matthew is an extremely charismatic person, and to some extent manipulative. He knows people well, and can easily read them and he doesn't mind playing and toying with people, to achieve what he wants and need. He is also a guy who knows that he is handsome, and uses it on regular basis. Even though he is very homosexual, and has never had any sexual interaction with or woman - nor wanted to - he has and still uses his good looks, to charm a woman if he needs it regarding his job. But mostly, his hobby is toying around with the men he takes home to bed. He is the type of person, who loves enchanting the people he sleeps with, to see them fall for him instantly - just so he can send them home the next day, with a shocked look on their face. However, he has quite the reputation, so honestly they should know that there is no way in hell he will ever let them stay and even consider some type of relationship. Matthew just doesn't do relationship. However, there is a reason for that. He lost faith in relationships by seeing his mother being thrown around like shit, and since then he has become convinced that relationships bring out the worst in people. Which is why he also hates when Mikhail or Sasha is in a relationship, becomes he feels that he is somehow losing his friends, and they're turning into someone who they're not. Even if they aren't. However, he is always polite to their significant others - well, at least while his friends is around them. He has often shown to mouthy and threatening to them, when his friends are gonna. Whether it's because he is testing them out, or because he is making sure they don't treat his friends badly, he always does it. And through people fit his image of the perfect man or woman for his two friends. Actually, no one has passed the test yet. He has even gotten as far as to flirt with their significant other, simply to test them out on whether or not they would cheat if they had the chance. Not that he gets why anyone would cheat on either Sasha nor Mikhail, but he still needs to be sure. He just that good of a friend. Matthew is also a very ironic, sarcastic og snarly guy who more of less is always in a joking mood. He always have a smart answer ready, and he is always the first to joke when there is a need for a joke. However, some people sees his humour as offensive, as he always dead-pans it and rarely smiles when he cracks a joke. But the people who get him, always finds him hilarious and warm, since he knows how to keep a situation light. But that doesn't mean he doesn't understand when the situation is pressed or going south, because he does. He knows where the line is and he doesn't cross it. When he were younger, he did. He had major problems with not crossing people's lines, but being a lawyer definitly helped solving that problem. But the job also brought along major problems. Such as being morally corrupted, as he takes on clients who pays the highest - meaning it's clients who are paying the best lawyers to keep their secrets hidden. Which has caused stirs between him and his morally good best friend before, but the discussion always ends on a note, because in the end Matthew helped Mikhail burying his demons a well. No one knows about the russian imprisonment, and a large portion of why nobody knows that is Matthews fault as he kept the trial under wrap, and was quick to shut down every reporter who wanted the scoop or to know what was happening. But Matthew doesn't really care what his clients did, or if they're walking freely into the world being criminals - he doesn't care. If it means he gets money in the bank and a good reputation as a lawyer, then he is happy. And that is exactly, is what sets him so far apart from his friends. He doesn't have moral compass, where he has a need for justice for those who have wronged people. If he had that, he would've turned his "father" in a long time ago. He cares about gaining fortune and reputation. But that doesn't make him a bad person, because he isn't. He is a very warm and loving person, who fights for the people closest to him and he loves them more than anything, with his entire heart. And that's what makes those people look past his need for fame and fortune, because when they enter his home and drink a glass of whiskey with him, he isn't that person. He is a sweet, charming guy with a heart of gold, that you can't help but care for. You just need to ignore who he is when he enters the legal world, because he is stone cold in that world. Doesn't have a bone of sympathy or good morals. However, most of his problems originates from his childhood. Growing up with a stepfather like that, watching your mother being brutally beat over and over again, it fucks something up inside you. Matthew has countless walls build up around him, and despite disclosing a lot of things to his two best friends, he never fully opens up to anyone. He does his own things, and when people get too close he attacks them verbally.
